Every year, tens of thousands of lives are lost on America’s roads.

Founded in 1947, the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety exists to change that. We are a nonprofit research and education organization with a singular mission: to prevent traffic crashes, reduce injuries, and ultimately save lives. For more than 75 years, we have pursued that mission with urgency and purpose by funding groundbreaking research, translating findings into practical guidance, and equipping the public with the knowledge to make our roads safer for everyone.

Our work draws on the expertise of leading researchers and safety advocates across North America, driving real solutions across four critical areas of traffic safety. Our landmark studies on distracted driving, drowsy driving, safe speeds, teen and older drivers, and traffic safety culture have shaped national conversations and informed policy at the highest levels. When the country needs answers about what’s happening on our roads, the AAA Foundation has become a trusted resource and authority.
